Disclosed is a method and system for providing a dynamic light path to equipment facing an issue in a data center by processing a SNMP trap and other peripheral information associated with the issue.

The method and system includes initially configuring a dynamic light path component with information. The dynamic light path component shall hereinafter be referred to as a Light Path Manger (LPM). The user configures the LPM with one or more of, data center information, and SNMP rules. The data center information includes floor tile coordinates corresponding to all equipment

within the data center. SNMP rules include rules regarding, source, codes and variable bindings for SNMP traps. Additionally

SNMP rules define a color code to associate with a SNMP trap according to severity of the SNMP trap (e.g. error = red, warning = yellow, information = white, not important = trap is not logged), and a deadline for servicing the SNMP trap (e.g. immediate or deferred). In an embodiment, the LPM runs on dedicated hardware within the data center. Additionally, the LPM uses redundant hardware to ensure no single point of failure occurs. The LPM can also include a screen, keyboard and mouse, in order to enable the user in interacting with a user interface of the LPM.

The method and system subsequently receives the SNMP trap and other peripheral information, from the equipment using a processing application. The method and system subsequently uses the processing application for processing the SNMP trap and other peripheral information. The method and system also uses the processing application for identifying appropriate commands based on the SNMP trap and other peripheral information, and subsequently sending the appropriate commands to the LPM. In an embodiment, the processing unit is a SNMP server. The SNMP server sends Protocol Data Unit (PDU) for the SNMP trap experienced by the equipment to the LPM.
