Method and System for Providing Information Required for Creating a Responsive Web Design from an Existing HTML Structure of a Static Web Page

Abstract

A method and system is disclosed for providing information required for creating a responsive web design for a static web page from an existing Hyper Text Markup Language (HTML) structure of the static web page.  The method and system incorporates the information required for creating the responsive web design into a style guide.  The style guide subsequently serves as a reference for multiple parties collaborating towards designing the static web page.

Description

Nowadays, while screens of devices such as mobile devices are getting narrower, screens of other devices such as desktops are getting wider.  In order to enable adapting layouts of web pages to both narrower and wider screens, a design approach commonly known as responsive web design has been developed.  Responsive web design enables rendering the web page according to device capabilities such as, screen size, content size, installed scripts, and installed libraries.

A method and system is disclosed for providing information required for creating a responsive web design for a static web page from an existing Hyper Text Markup Language (HTML) structure of the static web page.

In one embodiment, the method and system provides the information required for creating the responsive web design in the form of a style guide.  The style guide can serve as a reference for a party responsible for designing the static web page such as, but not limited to, a User Experience Designer (UED), a Project Manager (PM), a Quality Engineer, a developer and, an editor.  Further, the style guide can contain information facilitating communication between multiple parties collaborating towards creating a mock up design for the static web page.  The style guide can also contain information facilitating sharing of resources, and sharing of a progress of each party of the multiple parties towards creating the mock up design.

Information incorporated in the style guide can further include content strategy for the static web page.  Content strategy dictates the type of content to be rendered, and a placement of the content in the static web page, based on, an importance of the type of content, a screen size of a device rendering the static web page, an interest of a user of the device, and a location of the user.  For instance, the content strategy can dictate a content to be rendered by recommending shifting and deleting of the content.  Content strategy is especially important for devices with small screen sizes as usage per inch of screen size needs to be optimized.  For example, a content strategy for rendering the static web page in a mobile device with a small screen size dictates rendering content of user interest before rendering other types of content.  For a device with a wider screen size, content strategy can be set to allow initial rend...
