Under the circumstances of workplace communication, largely including emailing, instant messaging, calendar scheduling, people with the need to consult a contact often get frustrated when the target contact is offline and no substitute information is immediately available .

For example, John is dealing with an urgent task requiring information from his colleague Amy. Unfortunately Amy is out of office and consequently offline on Instant Messaging system (IM). The task's urgency forced John to take immediate action which frequently involves potshots to get Amy's backup person concerning this task.

In workplace, people, to be absent, often provide backup or delegate information in Out

attending system. But similar backup addressing solution is lacking in IM.

Known solution 1: The instant messaging is to assign the message to one particular people based on if the incoming message contains certain content or task.

Drawback: The solution is task oriented but not people oriented. It couldn't help to resolve the people backup problem.

Known solution 2: The automatically delegate instant messaging is based on a defined delegation schema.

Drawback: The solution is to define a rule such as if people is busy then the call or communication will be routed to the defined delegate.

The method is introduced in this disclosure about that IM can retrieve backup information from Out-Of-Office message set in e-mail, calendar, or meeting attending system, provided by people who are OOO, and automatically re-routing the communication to the backup. Whereby people do not have to set or provide backup information elsewhere when they are going to take vacation.

IM in this invention can retrieve people's backup information from the Out-Of-Office information set in e-mail, calendar or meeting attending system. As the sce...
