Disclosed is a method and system for providing a typeahead service based on one or more social networking content obtained from a social network of a user.

In accordance with an embodiment, the method and system receives a text input from the user in a text field via a device such as, but not limited to, a smartphone, a tablet and a computer. The text field is connected to a typeahead service via

Application Programming Interfaces (APIs). For example, the typeahead service can be enabled on any text input and the method and system can provide REST

APIs to query the typeahead service. The typeahead service utilizing text fields can be enabled for at least one of a type of searching, a file searching and a web browser. For example, in cell phones, the typeahead service can be enabled for texting and instant messaging. Additionally, for computers and tablets, the typeahead service can be enabled for at least one of a document composition and a blog post.

On receiving the text input from the user, the method and system identifies the social network of the user. The social network of the user can be identified by at least one or more of searching the internet to identify one or more networks, utilizing a subscription or profile of the user, identifying one or more contacts of the user by analyzing the user's email and analyzing communication between the user and other users. The method and system can also identify the social network based on a policy. For example, for an employee of a large company using a corporate device, the method and system associates the employee with a network consisting of one or more colleagues during business hours based on a predetermined policy. The method and system can also associate the employee with a different network during non business hours.

Within a given network, the method and system determines a sub network in which the user is active by analyzing at least one of a tweet*, one or more posts, one or more comments and one or more activities of the user. The network or sub network is a collection of one or more socially connected contacts.

After identifying the social network of the user, the method and system searches the user's social network using the text input by the user. For example, the method and system can use one or more big data processing tools for real time processing of the text input by the user. The method and system, then, searches an available content of the user and the user's social network based on the text input by the user. For example, if the user starts typing the text "pav", the method and system searches an aggregated content in the user's social network and retrieves one or more dessert recipes including pavlova.
