Method and System for Assisting an Attendee to Choose Event based on Interests of the Attendee

To meet goals and maximize the value of the conference, an attendee faces a challenge of choosing sessions to attend. If more than one session is scheduled at the same time, the attendee can only choose one session at a time. To make an informed decision, the attendee needs to read the description of each session. The description of each session can include information regarding topics and presenters. Further, the attendee is required to check the session times. If there are scheduling conflicts, the attendee is required to choose any one from conflicting sessions based on relevance of the session to the attendee. As the number of available

presentations increase, the process of choosing the appropriate session becomes time-consuming, tedious and prone to making mistakes.

Disclosed is a method and system for assisting an attendee to choose event based on interests of the attendee. The event can be a conference session. The method and system determines interests of an attendee utilizing one or more of, but not limited to, real-time context, attendee's activity and social information. Indicators can be one or more of, but not limited to, topics, people, roles, relationships, places, action types, object types, significant sessions, dates, and scopes. Thereafter, the method and system examines conference sessions to identify evidence corresponding to the indicators.

The method and system provides each indicator value a score and arranges the values within the indicator type by the scores. An exemplary mechanism for

gathering indicators to determine interests of the attendee is to monitor the attendee's interactions to enable information extraction. The extracted information can be regarding interactions and data items to measure frequencies, times, and types of information. The higher the interactions with the data, generally, the more important the data is to the attendee. Ordered lists of such information can be maintained in real-time, so that the method and system is always up to date with the attendee's activity.

For instance, the indicators to determine the interest of the attendee can be "topic" or "person". The method and system creates importance scores for all the topics and people connected with the attendee's interaction data. A session is associated with one or more of topics and people.

For topic indicators, the topics can be associated with the session in one or more

ways. For instance, the attendee assigns, tags and links one or more topic(s), consisting of words or phrases. The method and system uses keyword analysis of the session description to derive and associate keyword and key-phrase topics. Thereafter, the method and system uses semantic analysis of the session description to derive and associate topics from tax...
