Manufacturing Method and System for Wrapping a Label around a Circumference of a Cable

Typically, a label flag protrudes from a direct attach cable (DAC) near the DAC's transceiver plug. The label flags can become crowded at the faceplate of equipment where multiple cables are installed, thus obstructing airflow to the equipment. The blocking of the airflow may lead to overheating of the equipment which limits lifetime or reliability of the equipment. Consequently, air conditioning may need to be increased to help overcome the overheating of the equipment. A smaller label without any

protruding flag may overcome the obstructed airflow problem. However, the amount of information that can be displayed on the smaller label is limited and is difficult to read.

Disclosed is a method and system for wrapping a label around a circumference of a cable. The label is wrapped by curling or spiraling the label around the circumference of the cable. The wrapping of the label improves airflow of any equipment to which the cable is attached.

In accordance with the method, a label is wrapped around a cable as illustrated in Fig. 1.

The label is curled or spiraled along a circumference of the cable. The label is wrapped around the circumference of the cable manually. Alternately, the label may be manufactured in a way that the label curls by itself along the circumference of the cable. This assists in reducing airflow obstruction to the equipment to which...
