Abstract

The present invention proposes a tool to rotate a rotor during inspection, repair and maintenance. Connecting flange and reaction arm are required to be used. Such tool is used for all types of gas turbines, steam turbines and generator rotors while turning gear is unavailable. Hytorc jGun pneumatic torque wrench with different reaction arm is used when the rotor is required to be rotated continuously. Square drive torque wrench is used to provide motion to the rotor.

ROTOR TURNING DEVICE

BACKGROUND

The present invention relates generally to a turbine, and more particularly to a rotor turning device in turbines.

Generally, for several major inspections rotor is pulled out. Several conventional techniques are known in the art for performing outages of rotor during maintenance and/or repair.

A conventional technique relates to a device for turning rotor of a gas turbine engine for inspection. Such device has a tubular rod. The tubular rod is projecting through a casing of the gas turbine engine into proximity with rotor blades of the gas turbine engine. The tubular rod has a nozzle. The nozzle is directing a jet of air onto the blades to turn the rotor. The rod moves under an action of a spring. When a valve is opened to feed the nozzle and turn the rotor, air pressure moves the piston in a sense of retracting the tubular rod from a braking position.

However, the conventional techniques do not provide maintenance/repair of rotor during major inspection while leaving the rotor in.

Therefore, there is a need in the art for a tool which is used when rotor rotation is required for blade inspection and bucket replacement while turning gear is unavailable.
