Abstract

The present invention proposes a technique that provides cooling flow to exhaust frame in a gas turbine. The technique includes a radial fan system arrangement to provide cooling flow to the exhaust frame cooling. The radial fan provides required flow and pressure head for purging. A rotor shaft extends out from a bearing and mounts on the radial fan through a bolt. A baffle arrangement is utilized to direct flow towards a bearing side.

BACKGROUND

The present invention relates generally to a gas turbine and more particularly to a technique for providing cooling flow to exhaust frame in the gas turbine.

Cooling flow for the exhaust frame in the gas turbine includes an external blower skid. The external blower skid is connected to a grid for power supply. However, power supply to the external blower skid turns to be expensive. Also, blower motor over current is a frequent field issue that arises with use of blower skid.

A conventional technique includes a propeller driven by rotor shaft or exhaust gas flowing through the exhaust frame of the gas turbine.

Another conventional technique includes cooling air passages formed in a wall of an exhaust casing connection of turbine casing of the gas turbine.

One other conventional technique includes an axial fan with a propeller and impeller or radial fan on a rotor.

Yet another conventional technique includes cooling air extracted from a compressor to a space between an outer casing and outer diffuser for cooling air to the exhaust frame.

However, the conventional techniques are inefficient in providing cooling flow to the exhaust frame of the gas turbine.


It would be desirable to have an efficient technique to provide cooling flow for the exhaust frame of the gas turbine.
