Abstract

Remembering and finding where you parked can be a problem for many people. There are plenty of apps out there to do that on a mobile phone, but they detect the location of the car using a few methods: pressing a button for a GPS fix detecting when the GPS location suggests you're not driving any more deleting the bluetooth of your car radio disappearing The problem is that constantly using GPS wastes the battery. Also GPS isn't fully accurate, you might slow down and it thinks you've got out. Also, if you park in a multi storey, it won't be able to tell much about where you parked. The disclosed idea is to use a transport mode detector to notice when you are driving. It will store the recent accelerometer history Then when the accelerometer notices a gesture made by stopping and getting out of the car, it can store that fact. It will then try to get a GPS fix while still monitoring the movements. When it gets a fix, it can work out the location of the car based on the location and accelerometer history.
