Method and System for Efficiently Handling Email Storms in Mobile Devices

Disclosed is a method and system for efficiently handling email storms in mobile devices. The method and system utilizes two distinct components respectively to identify occurrence of email storms in advance and to take appropriate action based on the identification. Appropriate actions can be such as, but not limited to, de-prioritizing delivery and download of emails in mobile devices, thereby enabling faster access of emails. The onset of email storms is thus intelligently controlled using the components and a user is stopped from inadvertently contributing further to the email storms.

In accordance with the method and system, one of the components analyses an incoming email and checks if one or more users have started to reply to the incoming email. The component monitors keywords in the replied emails and triggers the second component to take an appropriate action of a match of keywords is observed. Monitored keywords can be such as, but not limited to, "unsubscribe me", "remove me from the group" and "please take me off this list". The component then triggers the second component to take appropriate action, if number of such replies exceeds a pre-set threshold.
