Guidelines For Successful Implementation of EVOQUETM Pre-Composite Polymer Technology
EVOQUETM Pre-Composite Polymers are based on a new and unique technology that offers improvements in Titanium Dioxide (TiO2) hiding efficiency through the development of a polymer-pigment composite. During the paint making process, the Pre-Composite Polymer combines with TiO2 to form a polymer-pigment composite which helps improve both the wet and dry hiding efficiency of the pigment. In addition, barrier performance properties of the film can be maintained or improved.
In many cases, switching to EVOQUE Pre-Composite Polymer Technology is as simple as a drop-in replacement of the existing binder (completely or partially), with little or no changes needed in other formulation or processing variables. Figure 1 outlines the recommended steps for successful implementation of EVOQUE Pre-Composite Polymer Technology. Guidance on these steps is discussed in the rest of this document.

When replacing or supplementing a binder in an existing formulation with an EVOQUETM Product, similar chemistry, glass transition temperature (Tg), VOC capabilities, and performance could be selected from Table 1. However, if preserving such properties of
the existing formulation is not a constraint, any or multiple EVOQUE Products could be screened for best results. If desired, a combination of two or more EVOQUE Products could also be used in the same formulation.

Select an EVOQUE™ Product based on desired properties and paint performance.
Use the desired amount of EVOQUE™ Pre-Composite Polymer in the recipe to balance cost and performance.
Optimize TiO2 level and backfill for desired performance (hiding, gloss, etc).
Test and validate performance in lab-scale under realistic processing conditions, and if satisfied proceed to scale-up.
If needed, refer to the "special considerations" section to further optimize the processing or performance of the paint.
