Abstract

Disclosed is a test strategy to separate test cases by its attributes, and then distribute to all ODMs and inhouse for better test resources optimized. The manpower of test efforts would be greatly reduced by all the participants' leveraging.

A test strategy to efficiently streamline ODMs and inhouse test resources

There are more and more test cases added in test teams. Since there are lots of test scopes outsourced to our ODMs, now they also charge more and more test expenses for test resources from us, such as manpower, test duration, regression testing for legacy projects and new software features. Not only legacy projects but also new projects need to be tested concurrently because of new hardware from refresh and special bids. All these requests cause test expenses getting higher and higher.

The solution is trying to separate the test cases by its attributes. There are three attributes: Core code test case (TC), Platform test case and OS related test case.

Core code test case is purely software functions which are hardware irrelevant, such as login/logout function or email setting. It just needs to pick up one system for all the core code test case and there is no need to test on other projects.

Platform test case is hardware related functions which mean the test cases should be tested on every projects.

OS test case is OS related functions which mean the test cases just need be tested on each selected/priority OS only and there is no need to test on every projects.

Our test expertise, experience and some feedback from development teams are based to produce these three attributes.

By this separation by test case attributions, we can leverage ODMs and in-house resources. Control not only their te...
