Abstract

Social analytics backed smart profile manager for mobile devices. A system which analyzes switching of profiles on portable devices like Smartphones, Tablets, Laptops etc. based on smarter parameters like Time, Place ( geo co-ordinates ), Co-location ( presence of other devices ), Social networks etc. and manages the switching of profiles on user's portable device automatically. By Place we refer to intelligence involved by analyzing the switch patterns of not only one user but entire consumer base and attaching recommended profiles to those places. This information could also be explicitly provided by non users of application.

Portable devices allow users to switch between different saved profiles, which is typically done based on where you are currently physically located or based on the people you are surrounded with. For example in a hospital you would want to switch to a profile which keeps your ringer volume to bare minimum, in a bus station you might want have profiles activated which keeps the volume at maximum.

While this is a wonderful invention and provides a very convenient mechanism to switch all profile settings in one go, the problem is that it requires the consumers to switch profiles manually. Whenever this is not done it may cause either socially unacceptable situation like your phone ringing on maximum value in a hospital or movie theater or many cause user to miss notifications like when the ringer is too low in a crowded place like bus station.

Most of the existing solutions rely solely on time or place for enabling this. Some prior arts below :

Automated switching of user notification profiles in a mobile device : Just allows for time or place parameters based switching. Does not allow for sharing of usage data analysis or analysis from social networks.

Self-aware profile switching on a mobile computing device : Focusses on the device in silo for recommending profiles. Does not allow for sharing of usage data analysis or analysis from social networks.

A technique which analyzes switching of profiles on portable devices like Smartphones, Tablets, Laptops etc. based on smarter parameters like Time, Place ( geo co-ordinates ), Co-location ( presence of other devices ), Social networks etc. and manages the switching of profiles on user's portable device automatically. By Place we refer to intelligence involved by analyzing the switch patterns of not only one user but entire consumer base and attaching recommended profiles to those places. This information could also be explicitly provided by non users of application. Other concepts are discussed below.

Advantages
1. Removes the manual intervention of switching the profiles
2. Prevents user from being in a socially awkward situation
3. Prevents user from missing out on notifications because of wrong active profile.

4. Can generate new profiles on user devices which might be more suitable in certain places, if they do not already exist.

5. Allows owners for certain geo-coordinates to force certain profiles upon consumers. Like airlines would want users to switch off their wifi and bluetooth etc.
