Abstract

This disclosure describes a new mechanism to implement panoramic imaging in a distributed way. The advantage of this new mechanism is flexible and good performance. In existing mechanism to take panoramic imaging, using single mobile device could not take the captures with multiple simultaneous views, and people need to smoothly move the device which is hardly to control. using multiple cameras could take captures with simultaneous views but the device is huge big, which is not suitable for portable device. By using this new mechanism, people could easily make panoramic imaging though mobile device in a convenience way and in anytime and anywhere.

Camera on mobile devices always have limited view, when capture an image, it is always limited by the view scope. To fix the problem, there is some panoramic skill, as below:

Existing skill 1

11::: Panoramic photography in single mobile device:

Panoramic photography is a technique of photography, it captures images with elongated fields of view and then combines the images into one seamless image. This technique on mobile devices has been implemented by software, like mobile phone.

Drawbacks:

This skill can't capture an image with multiple simultaneous views.

This skill is not flexible, it can only extend camera angle in one dimension. For example , when take an wide image, it only extend

An imaging system includes a plurality of cameras which collect multiple simultaneous overlapped images, and push them into an image transformation engine, then remove distortion and redundant information and create a single image as output.

Drawbacks:

The performance of combining images is low.

Normally the cameras are fixed with wires which isn't flexible.

While the existing solutions are all have their drawbacks, to get a flexible way on panoramic imaging, we can let mobile devices connected though near field communication, the near field communication can make the mobile devices connected in any time with any position. Once we get the images from the camera of each mobile devices, the images should have overlapped area, and then we will combine the views by merging overlapped part, at last generate one image.

This idea can make panoramic more flexible, but have limitation in performance of generating image which makes the photographing less smoothly, especially when shooting a video. The limitations are as below:

Near field communication always get limited speed. Take the NFC as an example, the fastest speed is 424 Kbit/s, while an image on

mobile phone is about 600KB-1MB, which means it will take a few seconds around to transform the whole image to another devices. While image computing always needs a lot of system resource, especially using the image combining methodology, it needs complex

computing and transforming, but this methodology will generate a much smooth image compared with simple image combination. Also the camera on mobile is generating pictures with more and more luxuriant pixel, it makes mobile devices take much time to execute the
