Automatic Resize of Instant Messaging Windows on Larger Pasted Content

In an Instant Messaging chat application (app), when a user inserts pasted content into the chat message window, the contents of that information is not automatically resized; thus, the pasted content is not viewable in its entirety within the chat window. (Figure 1) The user must manually resize the window to view the pasted content.

To view the image, users can manually re-size the chat window, can expand the window to the size of the device viewing area (i.e. maximize), or can awkwardly scroll horizontally and vertically. None of these solutions provides a good user experience.

A method is needed that enables the automatic adjustment of the size of the chat window to accommodate the size of the pasted content for optimal viewing.

Disclosed are a system and method to allow users within an Instant Messaging (IM) environment to accept large pasted content without manually resizing the chat window. Large pasted content can be sent to users without the need for a user to manually adjust the message window to view the entire pasted content. Users do not have to re-resize/undo the window resize after viewing the graphic if the user wishes to return to the previous area.
