Abstract

Disclosed is a method that recognizes existing architecture for information typing and the associated topics types, and then outputs Extensible Hypertext Markup Language (XHTML) files that contain an icon and colors for each type of information. The intuitive icons and colors help the users visually recognize the type of the information that is presented.

Improving A Help System For Easy Navigation And Discovery

A method is herein disclosed that helps users navigate help content and visually determine which topics relate to tasks, concepts, or references. That is, it helps users of an on-line information center recognize a topic content type (e.g., task, concept, reference, etc.) while browsing, as well as easily navigate to the right type of information and see a short description of the topic type.

For different types of help content (e.g., task, concept, reference) and sub-topics, the disclosed method automatically generates associated graphical icons, colors, and images through a new transformer. The new transformer recognizes existing architecture for information typing and the associated topics types, and then outputs Extensible Hypertext Markup Language (XHTML) files that contain an icon and colors for each type of information. The intuitive icons and colors help the users visually recognize the type of the information that is presented. The transformer also adds explanatory hover-over text for each.

The topics transformer uses different strings to output the content to XHTML. The solution strings can be added to the existing string, or can be created separately in a new "string-images.xml", in a new infrastructure common plugin. The images are also part of the common infrastructure plugin and are created during topics transformation,
