Mail clients and online social networks are universal mechanism to connect people, groups, and information in logical and organized ways. The mail clients and online social networks enable sharing and processing of information between users. The most common mechanisms of sharing and processing information are an inbox, a

wall, an activity stream, a timeline or a profile. The mechanisms enable a user to rapidly share information with others and gather information from others in networks. Each user creates, reads and responds to countless messages a day. However, there are chances that a message which requires attention from a user is missed by the user due to increased number messages in an inbox or a wall of the user.

Disclosed is a method and system for managing a qualification rule attention in a communication mechanism. The method and system optimizes presentation of updates in the communication mechanism. The method and system enables a sender to set a qualification rule. The system monitors the updates and detects if the updates satisfy the qualification rule. The system executes a corresponding action for the qualification rule. The qualification rule is based on quality and quantity of a response. The qualification rule is mapped to an action for an update such as, but not limited to, establishing a waitlist to respond, automatically submitting a second update, change a presentation view, decay a wait of a view of the update and remove the update from view.

The sender of a notification can set rules, limits and audience for a specific communication. The sender creates a communication, sets rule(s), condition(s) and/or limit(s) associated with the communication. Thereafter, the sender sends identified audience and initiates start process of the communication. The notification is communicated to audience(s) which can include, but is not limited to, parallel communication, sequential communication and scheduled communications. The receivers of the notification can take action, postpone action, reject action, delay action or take any step(s) available. The validity period of the communication can
be open or managed by one or more of, but not limited to, rule(s), condition(s), limit(s) or other validity option. When a receiver takes an action, the receiver does not receive repeat notifications unless specified by the sender during setting of the rule(s), condition(s) and/or limit(s). When the receiver fails to take an action, the receiver does not receive repeat notifications unless specified by the sender during setting of the rule(s), condition(s) and/or limit(s). Once the rule(s), condition(s) and/or limit(s) are met by the specified audience, a cleanup up process is initiated.
