Currently, rich text is used widely in computer world. Rich text can convey more information than ordinary plain text. Usually rich text is defined with font, color, style and etc. Below are examples of plain text and rich text

Rich text format is well supported in the computer world. When editing text, we usually need to search specific words(like screen shot#
3). However, we can't find text that matches a particular style, which is very important when editing large documents. The search function just looks for match of words with no considerations on the styles applied to text. Eg, for screen shot#2, the user want to search a particular text 'editor' with red color, italic and etc.
