Private information on computer displays may be visible to anyone in the viewing area of the display. Privacy screens limit viewable area but do not discriminate by viewer. Other solutions use identity-proximity technology (such as Bluetooth*) to identify users in proximity and restrict viewable content. These identity-proximity solutions could restrict viewing unnecessarily; for example, a user in a neighboring cube could actuate the privacy actions on a display device not in line of sight.

The novel solution provides a method for considering multiple viewers (i.e. multiple sets of roles) of a screen and applying that information to a single login session.

A camera on a personal device can be used to monitor those viewing the content displayed on that device. Using facial recognition, the personal device can store a viewer permission list with permission levels. When a face is detected, the viewing permission can use the default of the lowest setting (e.g., display nothing) until that face is recognized and a permission level is identified.

Using well-known and available facial recognition technology the computer can detect faces from a computer's front facing camera (addressing the line of sight concern with identity-proximity solutions).
