Disclosed is an augmented reality system to improve the efficiency of diagnosing and repairing system errors amongst servers. This solution allows an engineer to scan the Quick Response (QR) code (indicating the type of the server) and the LED/display status, and then guides the engineer through the troubleshooting steps.

A typical server room contains many types of servers. It is difficult for an engineer to diagnose the servers that are displaying errors on the front console . Currently, if the server cannot start up, the engineer needs to check the Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) on the server's front panel, look for the meaning of the LED codes in a manual , and perform troubleshooting steps. This is a time consuming process, especially for an inexperienced engineer. In addition, the content in the manuals becomes quickly outdated and can be missing important updated information (i.e. flashes) about problems already seen in the field.

The novel contribution is an augmented reality system, which is easily added to existing servers, to improve the efficiency of diagnosing system errors. When the server cannot start up, engineer uses this system to scan the Quick Response (QR) code and LED status on the front panel. This system recognizes the QR code and LED status, searches for troubleshooting steps in the knowledge database , and then guides the user through a troubleshooting process that may change depending upon changes in the LED status.

This augmented reality system for troubleshooting comprises methods to recognize the LED server status indicators and recognize the server type by the QR code. The augmented reality method displays the solution and improves the efficiency on server diagnosis.
