MULTI LANGUAGE CROSS PLATFORM CONTENT SHARING

TECHNICAL FIELD

This disclosure generally relates to systems and methods that facilitate generating a language agnostic uniform resource locator (URL) for a content item to a landing page that includes metadata describing various language options for presenting the content. Furthermore, a receiving device follows the URL and reads the metadata to match available languages to a preferred language of a recipient of the URL in order to present the content to the recipient in his preferred language if available.

BACKGROUND

Many content systems allow publishers to share their content in various languages. Conventionally, publishers create separate landing pages for each language in which their content is available. This poses several problems with respect to tracking usage and sharing of the content. Because each language version of a content item has a landing page with a different URL, access statistics, such as those that help determine popularity and search rankings, related to the content can be underrepresented. Furthermore, a publisher or consumer that wants to share the content will likely share it using a URL to a version in his default language even though a recipient may have a different preferred language for viewing content.
