Usually a travel agency provides a specific travel plan and specifies one or more points of interest associated with one or more locations in the travel plan. A traveler may purchase the travel plan and may identify one or more points of interest while travelling. Such one or more points of interest may not be included in the travel plan and the traveler may not be aware of this.

Disclosed is a method and system for identifying one or more points of interest and determining if the one or more points of interest are included in a travel plan that has been organized for a traveler.

In accordance with the method and system, a traveler may identify points of interest along a travel route according to a travel plan followed by the traveler. For example, while travelling or moving in a vehicle, car, or travel bus, the traveler may notice a point of interest in a far off distance from an existing location of the traveler as illustrated in Figure 1.

The point of interest may be identified by the traveler using an image capturing device such as one or more of, but not limited to, a mobile phone and a digital camera. An image or video, captured by the image capturing device, is sent via a communication network to a web application server hosting a database of a travel agency.
