Abstract

This invention proposes an adaptive method that smart TV can automatically adjust sizes of different keys on soft keyboard to fit different users’ position. It uses mature body detection method to detect the position of the user, including the angle and the distance. Then it uses such position to calculate each key’s new visual size and resizes keys. So the user can see each key is the same size visually. That is, the far-end keys are the same size to the near-end keys visually. This helps users to select keys from different positions.

Smart TV is an emerging market and various developers, manufacturers, companies are investing huge resource in this market. Smart TV, as a "smart" device, has its input and output systems. Soft keyboard is a standard input method for current smart TV. A common scenario for users using smart TV soft keyboard is that users sit in the sofa, manipulate remote controller to select keys on soft keyboard and input some characters. Each key's size on smart TV soft keyboard is the same no matter what users' positions are. Users watch smart TV from various positions, different angles and different distances. This introduces a visual problem when users want to select keys on soft keyboard. Far-end keys of the soft keyboard looks smaller than near-end keys visually. In some situations, the far-end keys are evenhard to see. Figure 1 shows such situation. From the user's position, far-end keys, such as "Q", "A", "Z", seems much smaller than near-end ones, such as "P", "L". Current invention there is no method to resize the soft keyboard adaptively. They just make the soft keyboard larger after it is selected.
