Disclosed is a method for allowing random write on shingled magnetic recording (SMR) drive.

SMR is one of the next generation technology for hard disk drive (HDD). SMR drive writes two or more track at a time to improve recording density. It means that SMR drive overwrites neighbor tracks when SMR drive writes data and data which has been written on these neighbor tracks is lost. So it is hard to reuse tracks on SMR drive.

The disclosure provide the method for allowing random write on shingled magnetic recording (SMR) drive by making a special partition. In the special partition, SMR drive uses track intermittently. In other words, SMR drive uses track #X, #X+N, #X+2*N, #X+3*N, ... and does not use other tracks in the spacial partition. X is the start track number of the special partition. And N is the minimum natural number which satisfy the the next figure.

P: Track pitch.

By using track intermittently, SMR drive has no way to write unique data on overwritten tracks.
