Disclosed is a method and system for multi-perception cognitive mapping. The method and system enables mapping based on one or more modalities which are detectable by one or more of humans and sensors. The method and system builds and uses maps related to multiple perception modalities such as , but not limited to, audio and chemical concentration (e.g. smell).
In one implementation, the method and system utilizes a sensor/emitter based mapping. In accordance with the implementation, the method and system utilizes one or more programmable emitting devices, one or more acoustic receivers, and a module that processes/translates acquired information. For example, a vast array of sensors can emit signature signals. The signals can be used to communicate some sort of programmed information such as, but not limited to, location and proximity of water (e.g. in desert). Alternately, the signals can be used to broadcast a unique signature , thereby allowing a determination of whether a given sensor has been detected before .
The method and system disclosed herein can be used for one or more applications such as, but not limited to, applications related to navigation, event detection, event correlation and crime prevention. In addition, the method and system can be utilized in conjunction with other systems such as visual-coordinate mapping. For instance, the method and system can be used along with visual-coordinate mapping to detect noise/chemical pollution levels in a city.
In an embodiment, the method and system is implemented as an acoustic sensor system operating in addition to (or instead of) a GPS based navigation system. In accordance with the implementation, the method and system includes a network of sensors, wherein the network of sensors is set up ahead of time such as for instance in tunnels (connected to power lines) or in desert (solar powered). The network of sensors is utilized for broadcasting information such as , but not limited to, location, proximity to resources and emergency information. The system further includes a receiver mounted on a vehicle. The receiver is configured to receive/decipher the information received from the network of sensors . A user can select the information of interest to display the received information related to one of , but not limited to, navigation and emergency information (e.g. information about presence of heat or chemicals) on a screen.
