Suncare compositions with new thickeners

Cosmetic or pharmaceutical preparations according to the invention may exist in a wide variety of prepa-

ration forms, for example, creams (more or less viscous) such as O/W, W/O, O/W/O, W/O/W, PIT

emulsions or micro-emulsions, gels, lotions, milks, sprays, alcoholic or aqueous/alcoholic lotions, milks,

wax/fat compositions, stick preparations, powders, tablets, foams, ointments, etc…

The described cosmetic or pharmaceutical preparations are distinguished by excellent protection of

human skin against the damaging effect of sunlight.

As water- and oil-containing emulsions (e.g. W/O, O/W, O/W/O and W/O/W emulsions or microemulsions)

the preparations contain, for example, from 0.1 to 30 % by weight, preferably from 0.1 to 15 % by weight

and especially from 0.5 to 10 % by weight, based on the total weight of the composition, of one or more

UV absorbers, from 1 to 60 % by weight, especially from 5 to 50 % by weight and preferably from 10 to

35 % by weight, based on the total weight of the composition, of at least one oil component, from 0 to 30

% by weight, especially from 1 to 30 % by weight und preferably from 4 to 20 % by weight, based on the

total weight of the composition, of at least one emulsifier, from 10 to 90 % by weight, especially from 30

to 90 % by weight, based on the total weight of the composition, of water, and from 0 to 88.9 % by weight,

especially from 1 to 50 % by weight, of further cosmetically acceptable adjuvants.

The described cosmetic or pharmaceutical compositions/preparations are containing Luvigel FIT (INCI:

Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Methacrylate Copolymer) and/or Luviset ONE (INCI:

Acrylates/Methacrylamide Copolymer) as thickeners.

Luvigel FIT is a liquid thickener that is tailor-made for clear and smooth hair-styling gels. Based on

hydrophobic alkali swellable emulsion (HASE) technology, it works synergistically with various styling

polymers so high setting performance can be easily achieved.

Luviset® One is the all-in-one solution for hair styling gels, creams and waxes, delivering strong styling

performance, long-lasting curl retention, thickening and emulsifying benefits and provides a smooth,

crystal-clear gel base. This product is a white to light yellow dispersion acrylic copolymer in water. It is

supplied at 28-32% solids and is stabilized in 0,7-0,8% sodium benzoate.

Both polymers originally developed for Hair Care can be used advantageously as thickener to prepare

Skin Care formulation, such as O/W, W/O or gel formulations. In case of Suncare formulation, the

polymers increase the spreading of the UV filters in the formulation (particulate filters) and on the skin,

boosting the SPF/UVA-PF performance. The sand repellence and the water resistance are improved

by the use of those polymers. In case of yellow formulations, the textile staining is significantly lowered by

the use of those polymers.

The obtained formulations have an elegant skin feel and ove...
