Abstract

Disclosed is an idea is to let users be able to customize translation on the applications's UI. In this idea, users can edit the translation to any translation they prefer on the UI directly and they can also check out the translation suggestions provided by other product users to see which translation is more suitable. After modification, the string will be written into Program Integrated Information (PII) files. So, the translation would be changed after the PII file modification. Also, the modified translation will be uploaded to product translation server for the reference of next release. Furthermore, this idea can help prove the translation quality and the translation can be more accurate for different cultural users (users using the same language but in different locations, or cities, or cultures) .

A method to customize translation on UI and provide translation suggestion by user's preference

Current translation of application is defined by the translator of the provider. Once it's decided, all the product users have to use these translations. However, sometimes users would think some translations are not suitable on the current UI or they prefer another translation but they can not modify the UI translations. Because all of the translation were already decided. In another situation, a product has been acquired by other company and the company decides to modify all of the translation to fulfill the new company's standard but all of the users already got used to the old version translation for many years instead of the newer one. Under this situation, all users will be confused with the new translation and what they can do is to get used to the bad translation UI.

On product release side, organizations hire professional native translators to do the product UI's translation. However, these professional native translators may not be representative of the whole product users, so some of the users' preference will be ignored. Therefore, a new method to customize translation on UI and provide translation suggestion by user's preference is proposed to fulfill all of the users need.

The proposed idea is to let users be able to customize translation on the UI. These applications can be desktop application, mobile device APP, or even SaaS application.

For example: A English translation for the users in Hawaii State and the users in other states may be different. Although their languages are both English, but their location, culture and race are different, so their translation preference may be different. By using this new method, products can show up accurate translation for different group of users. Also, if there's a specific language usage for some location/region/city, developers can create a new language package for them.

Advantages: 1. Customizable translation on UI 2. Translations are editable anytime 3. Translation suggestion from other product users are provided 4. Providing translation reference for next release 5. Better translations for different culture users (users using the same language but in different locati...
