Method and System for Automatically Managing Threads in a Workforce Collaboration Environment Based on Extracted Concepts

Disclosed is a method and system for emphasizing/de-emphasizing one or more discussion threads in a collaborative environment based on matching one or more text concepts within the one or more discussion threads to one or more lists of positive concepts and negative concepts.

In order to emphasize/de-emphasize the one or more discussion threads, the method and system extracts the one or more text concepts from the one or more discussion threads in real time. The method and system extracts the one or more text concepts using techniques such as, but not limited to, concept extraction and named entity extraction. In concept extraction, the method and system utilizes linguistic processing in order to group sets of similar words or word phrases under a single lead term . In named entity extraction, the method and system extracts sets of words that include names of people, names of companies, addresses. Further, the method and system executes the above mentioned techniques immediately upon submitting the one or more discussion threads into a collaboration system.

Thereafter, the method and system matches the one or more text concepts to the one or more lists of positive concepts and negative concepts . The one or more lists of positive concepts and negative concepts can be administratively-defined and can contain one or more comment count thresholds . The one or more comment count thresholds determine a number of comments within a thread that can contain the one or more text concepts before at least one of an emphasis action and a de -emphasis action is taken.

In an embodiment, the method and system utilizes simple matching of the one or more text concepts with the one or more comment count thresholds . In this technique, the method and system matches the one or more text concepts within the one or more discussion threads directly against the one or more lists of the positive concepts and the negative concepts. If the one or more text concepts match any of the administratively-defined negative concepts, the method and system increments a negative counter specific to at least one discussion thread of the one or more discussion threads. If the negative counter exceeds an administratively-defined negative threshold, the method and system executes a de-emphasis action. On the other hand, if the one or more text concepts match any of the administratively -defined positive concepts, the method and system increments a positive counter specific to the one or more discussion threads. If the positive counter exceed an administratively-defined positive threshold, and the at least one discussion thread has not exceeded the negative threshold, the method and system executes an emphasis action.

In another embodiment, the method and system matches the one or more text concepts within the one or more discussion threads against two...
