A method and system is disclosed for reducing waiting time for viewing images while downloading multiple images.

Description

Disclosed is a method and system for reducing waiting time for viewing images while downloading multiple images.

The method and system provides a probabilistic algorithm that proposes a sequence for download of a set of images.  The sequence contains images of smaller sizes at the top with a high probability.  This enables an early download of the images of smaller sizes compared to images of larger sizes.  This minimizes waiting time for a user to view the images.

Fig.1 illustrates a sequence for download of images.

The method and system provides two sets of data T and U to the probabilistic algorithm.  Here, T = {ti} is the time required by the images which are already downloaded and U = {ui} is the set of image Uniform Resource Locators (URLs) which are not yet downloaded.  Here, i is a set represented as {1, 2,…, n} where n is the total number of images to be downloaded.  The method and system calculates a value m which is an average of the time taken by the images in the set T to download i.e. m = (t1 + t2 + ... + tn) / n.

Fig.2 illustrates the probabilistic algorithm.
