Power generation plants face substantial challenges in outage management caused by

weather-related events due to lack of precise information . For instance difficulty in determining the location and cause of outages without physical inspection can result in delayed restoration and excessive costs. Further, lack of information on outage cause and expected restoration time can lead to customer dissatisfaction . Currently, planning and staging for storm events is based on a generalized storm expectation , as opposed to, a focused weather forecast. However, using a generalized storm expectation as the basis for planning can lead to inefficient staging and slow response times .

Disclosed is a method and system for predicting impact on infrastructure caused by

weather related events by integrating weather data with a statistical damage model . The statistical damage model can be, but need not be limited to a spatio-temporal regression model. The impact on infrastructure can be, but need not be limited to, outages at a power generation plant. Weather data can include one or more of , but not limited to, historical weather data, and predicted hindcasts.
