A Method and System for Blocking Texting in Mobile Phone while Driving a Vehicle

Disclosed is a method and system for blocking a user from concurrently texting on a mobile phone and driving a vehicle. Here, the system monitors three (3) parameters associated with a user driving a vehicle. The parameters are eye movement patterns, typing patterns on the mobile phone keyboard, and the speed of the vehicle. The learned behavior patterns and speed of the vehicle indicate when a user is driving a vehicle and texting.

FIG. 1 illustrates an exemplary scenario wherein a user is texting on a mobile phone while driving a vehicle.

The system disclosed herein tracks eye movement of a user driving a vehicle using eye tracking software integrated into the mobile phone. The eye tracking software included in the system tracks erratic eye movement patterns based on the user's line of vision. The abnormality in the line of vision is determined by the user's focus pattern of one that is on the mobile phone, to one that is off the mobile phone, in an oscillating pattern. For example, if the user focuses on the mobile phone screen for 2 seconds, then away for 2 seconds, then back to the phone for 2 seconds, this is an indicator to the system that the user is involved in an activity while using the mobile phone.
