Abstract

Disclosed is a method for using a mobile device of a user as a key to lock/unlock one or more pages of a web site to protect private data of the user on the web site.  The method utilizes a unique identifier associated with the mobile device and the web site such as, but not limited to, the media access control address (MAC address) and user ID, to control access to different web pages of the web site.

Description

Disclosed is a method for using a mobile device of a user as a key to lock/unlock one or more web pages of a web site to protect the private data of the user on the web site.  The method disclosed herein can be implemented as a mobile application, which can be used to lock/unlock web pages of the web site that require user authentication.  The method disclosed herein enables the user to register a unique identifier of the mobile device such as the media access control address (MAC address), with a user account of the user as illustrated in Fig. 1.

As illustrated in Fig. 1, the user first registers the MAC address or other unique identifier of the mobile device with a server for a user ID.  The server then records the MAC address or other unique identifier along with the user ID to identify that the user will use the mobile device as a key.  Thereafter, the method enables the user to use the mobile device for locking and/or unlocking a web page of the web site.  

Fig. 2 illustrates the step of locking the web page using the mobile device.  As illustrated in Fig. 2, the user utilizes the mobile application for locking the web page.  In order to lock the web page, the user enters a lock command using the mobile application.  The mobile application encrypts the registered MAC address or...
