Abstract

A method and system is disclosed for automatic summarization and quantification of web content based on user browsing activities.  The method and system automatically marks web content along with original Universal Resource locator (URL) and summarizes the web content for future retrieval.  Summarized web content is further categorized into topics and is presented to the user for better access and retrieval.

Description

Disclosed is a method and system for automatic summarization and quantification of web content based on user browsing activities.  The method and system retains and summarizes critical content that a user is reading on a web page and clusters into different topics for future retrieval.  Clustered summaries and topics aid user in maintaining a succinct view of the content read on different web pages for over a period of time. 

In accordance with the method and system, a user installs a plug-in in the web browser which is used for surfing the web at all the times.  The user then registers the installed plug-in by generating a user ID and password, for utilizing the service.   Thereafter, the plug-in tracks the user actions performed on the web browser such as, for example, accessing a Universal Resource Locator (URL), clicking an embedded link, etc.  The plug-in then automatically retains the accessed URLs that the user has navigated and stores them in a database.  Optionally, the user can also select an exclude option in the plug-in which results in not retaining a particular URL, the user wishes to.  This allows exclusion of web pages where summaries are not required such as, for example, the user reading web mail, reading jokes, etc.
