Abstract

A method and system is disclosed for identifying a user’s context using Software Defined Radio (SDR) in a mobile device.  The SDR detects signals in one or more frequency bands in order to identify the user’s context.  The method and system utilizes the SDR to detect specific radio spectra of one or more powered devices in proximity to the user device in order to identify the user’s context.

Disclosed is a method and system for identifying a user’s context using Software Defined Radio (SDR) in a mobile device.  The SDR detects signals in one or more frequency bands in order to identify the user’s context.

In an embodiment, the method and system allows the mobile device to identify proximity of one or more powered devices.  The one or more powered devices can also include Light Emitting Diode (LED) flashlights.  The one or more powered devices produce a specific radio spectrum that can be detected by the SDR in the mobile device.  The method and system, then, infers the user’s context based on detecting the specific radio spectrum of the one or more powered devices.  For example, inferring the user’s context  can include, but need not be limited to,  inferring whether the user is near a computer, the user is using a micro-wave, the user is driving a car, the user is watching television, the user is playing video games, the user is si...
