Abstract

1. ABSTRACT A new type of Cleat (support angles for frames in aircrafts) was needed when introducing integrated-extruded frames. In order to stiffen these parts, one edge of a cleat was designed with a folding edge. This makes up for the lack of stiffness, which resulted of the shape of the new cleat design. A Corrugation/ Reinforcing-Seam WITHIN the Cleat has not been investigated until then.

2. DISCLOSURE

In order to stiffen these parts, one edge of a cleat was designed with a folding edge. This makes up for the lack of stiffness, which resulted of the shape of the new cleat design. A Corrugation/ Reinforcing-Seam WITHIN the Cleat has not been investigated until then.

The internal reinforcing-seam eliminates the additional folding edge of each cleat. This allows for less weight, a different (cheaper) manufacturing process (deep-drawing instead of a common two-fold bending process), and less space needed for each cleat. It also allows for later introduction of extruded frames without affecting existing brackets, as no folding edge will clash with existing bracket design. The reinforcing-seam as stiffening element will replace the folding edge.

The new cleat design with reinforcing-seam eliminates the extra flange of the current cleat design, as the seam acts as a stiffening element. The flange is not needed anymore.
