Disclosed is a method and system for automatically showing popular/trending information nearby.  The method and system allows display of popular or trending information on a user’s display device by extracting data from history of log files stored in the display device and automatically determining user interested activities and events.  Related information can be an immediate overview of activities or events going on nearby, such as for example shows, carnivals, etc. 

In accordance with the method and system, a basic data such as for example search queries, tweets, posts, etc., is extracted from log files that are stored in a display device and geo-locations related to the data are determined.  The determined data is then categorized by geographic locations (e.g. San Francisco, or the entire United States) and time (e.g. last month for more static popular terms; last hour for recent events; a certain time window such as last Friday night for detecting historic or recurring events, etc.).  Thereafter, the identified geographical locations are divided and arranged into regions of...
