Abstract

1. ABSTRACT
The aim of this invention is to improve the installation time and cost of a secondary structure bracket assembly process. In the state of the art each bracket has only one installation philosophy, it means it can be riveted, glued or screwed; each of this has an advantage or disadvantage.

For a rivet bracket (see Fig. 2) some holes in a structure of a vehicle are necessary, this provides some dust during the drilling. For a glue bracket (see Fig. 1) a pre fix tools is necessary until the glue is curing.

The riveting process is cheaper, in case of using a CNC drilling machine; the drilling is accurately and avoid some tolerance problems. During the assembly process in a complete vehicle a gluing installation process makes sense, because this provides no dust.

During the assembly process of the vehicle, the manufacturing engineering has the possibility to choose the installation process between riveting and gluing.
For example it is simple to drill a hole than the bracket has to be riveted, it is not possible to drill a hole in case of stress requirements or risk of dust contamination during drilling, the bracket can be glued.

The invention is to develop a combination of gluing and riveting bracket in the same part (see Fig. 3).

The idea is to have one definition dossier (drawing) with a bracket, which can be riveted or glued.
In the usual manufacturing process the bracket can be riveted (drilling per CNC-machine),
if the drawing preparation are to late the bracket can be bonded (no drilling necessary).
The gluing process is more expensive than the drilling, but the gluing allow an installation which is dust free.
