Configure kanban board columns based on work item type selection

Kanban boards (a popular Lean development tool) represent work item states as columns. Within a particular project, there may be teams that use different workflows and for whom different columns are useful/valid to show on the board. Current solutions allow users to manually select the set of columns that show on the board by adding or removing states.

The problem with this approach is that users might not be able to identify the states of interest (i.e., the state the user needs to access). For example, a team using Scrum might have a state called "In Progress", while the Kanban team in the same project

might have a state called "Working". Such similar state names are difficult to correlate to each team.

The solution is a configured process to determine the appropriate states. This allows users to identify items or item-types using familiar names rather than the names of the associated workflow states.

Clickable text (e.g., a hyperlink) is added to the column configuration area of the Kanban board, which prompts the user to select columns. When the user clicks on a link, a dialog appears which consults the project process for the defined work item types and then asks the user which types to use on the board. The user can select multiple

work item types. When the user clicks OK in the dialog, the code again consults the configured Process to determine the set of workflows for each work item type. T...
