Abstract

The invention includes a technique to reduce FUS treatment time in an MRgFUS for breast cancer. The technique includes acquiring MRI scan of a patient with T1/T2/proton density image or ideal intelligence quotient (IQ) for the breast. Then data set is loaded to MRgFUS pre-process WS. Water (in mammary gland) to fat ratio for whole breast is calculated and result is displayed on the monitor as W/F ratio.

FIELD OF INVENTION

The invention generally relates to a magnetic resonance guided focused ultrasound (MRgFUS) system and more particularly a support system for the MRgFUS system.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

Several doctors conduct application of magnetic resonance guided focused ultrasound (MRgFUS) for breast cancer treatment. Several clinical reports and papers include treatment of early stage small size breast cancer ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) by utilizing MRgFUS which shows equivalent treatment result as that through surgery. Also MRgFUS is recommended since it perfectly provides image of the breast. However, MRgFUS includes long pre-processing time. Long pre-processing time requires many manual operations to generate focused ultrasound (FUS) data from magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) data. Also, user experience (UX) is not user friendly. MRgFUS includes clinical studies, which shows that there is dominant tendency of over treatment especially in dense breast. Clinical paper reports that MRgFUS requires twice the time as compared to surgery.  MRgFUS has potential to be a standard treatment procedure in breast cancer area.

A conventional technique includes mass segmentation and ablation margin by manual operation. However, the technique requires reducing FUS treatment time.

Hence there exists a need for an efficient technique to reduce FUS treatment time and over treatment in an MRgFUS for breast cancer.
