Abstract

Image add-ons can be added to an image for interesting and fun effects. An image add-on includes a visual image portion, e.g., similar to a sticker, which can be added onto a subject image. The visual portion is associated with a distortion field (e.g., matrix or map) positioned in a particular position relative to the visual portion. When the image-add on is added to the subject image, the portion of the image that corresponds to the distortion field is distorted in a way instructed by the distortion field. This allows fun visual distortions of people, animals, or objects in subject images when image-add-ons are applied. For example, a hat add-on can shrink a depicted head of a person, a bow-tie add-on can shrink a neck or enlarge eyes, a glasses add-on can shrink a head and/or enlarge eyes within their frames, etc. Expression add-ons can also be used to distort a depicted face into having an expression desired by the user.

DESCRIPTION

The present disclosure describes features related to add-ons to images. In prior applications, users are able to select "stickers" to add to photos, such as small cartoons or icons, drawings of objects, image border frames (e.g., teddy bear frames), small portions of images, etc. However, people quickly run out of creative things to add to their photos, since the subject selections of stickers one can add are static and one-dimensional and get boring over time. Users would like more fun with their images and add more expressions and statements to an image.

Features described in this document provide one or more image add-ons. An image add- on includes a visual portion which is an image, e.g., similar to a sticker. In some implementations, the visual portion appears as an object, icon, or other subject that can be added to separate subject image. The subject image is typically larger than the visual portion of the add-on, allowing the visual portion to be placed "on" the subject image. For example, the visual portion can be moved over the subject image by a user, e.g., dragging the visual portion with a cursor or by touching a touchscreen, and can be placed in a desired position on the subject image. The visible portion can be one image, or can be multiple separated images in some

implementations, e.g., images located at a constant position with reference to each other. In some implementations, the visual portion can be on its own layer separate from the subject image to allow it to be moved independently over the subject image, and then (in some cases) can be made part of the subject image at a desired position. For example, the corresponding pixels of the subject image can be altered to duplicate the pixels of the visual portion, creating a modified image in place of the subject image.

The add-on also includes one or more associated (e.g., attached) distortion fields. A distortion field is a map or matrix that instruc...
