The invention includes a technique to measure magnetic field and provide alignment information during a gradient coil manufacturing. The technique includes a tool to accurately align each layer of the gradient coil fingerprint boards to avoid gradient coil mis-alignment issue, which results in low image quality. FIELD OF INVENTION

The invention generally relates to a gradient coil assembly in a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system and more particularly to a technique for measuring magnetic field and alignment information of the gradient coil during manufacturing process. 

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION


Typically, there are six layers of a gradient coil that a builder requires to constantly rotate back and forth during gradient coil manufacturing. As a result, the layers in a mandrel are dislocated little by little till a builder completes an entire coil. The alignment between gradient coil layers and fingerprint patterns is particularly important which is about sub millimeter range. Misalignment between fingerprint patterns of the gradient coil boards results in poor image quality and also uncorrectable eddy current performance of the gradient coil.

A conventional technique includes a dual-potted process where inner and outer gradient coils are manufactured separately and are electrically aligned by utilizing alignment rig and glue together. However, the conventional technique is complex and requires more manufacturing time.

Another conventional technique includes single-potted gradient process where coils are mechanically aligned for each single layer throughout the gradient coil manufacturing process. However the conventional technique does not correct any mis alignment of the layers.

Hence there exists a need for an efficient technique to align the gradient coil during manufacturing.
