Method and System for Facilitating Collaboration and a Code Annotation during a Software Development

During software developments, programmers spend a lot of time and effort in comprehension and communication of a code structure and implementation. Usually, documentation is minimal and the documentation is carried out by adding text comments in the code. Developers use multi-mechanisms and tools that document any useful information. However, the information is never integrated with a corresponding code when the code is relatively new.

Disclosed is a method and system for facilitating a real-time collaboration and a code annotation with related discussions that are associated with code change during a software development. The method and system enables addition of multimedia files as code annotations for streamlining a documentation process. The multimedia files can be one of more of, but not limited to, text, audio and video. The method and system utilizes current work item integration in an instant message system, and natural language or text analysis to detect conversations in an external messaging system. Thereafter, the method and system denotes and captures information used in a multi-media transcript. The method and system automatically associates and tags the information as the code annotation to the most appropriate section of code block.

The method and system can be initiated by enabling a user to initiate or terminate annotations via a keystroke. The method and syste...
