Abstract

It has been noticed that gasolines with ASTM D381 solvent-washed gum content test results originally above 5 mg/100 mL (including significantly above) prior to the addition of deposit control additive (DCA) will often measure below 5 mg/100 mL when the test is done after the addition of common-place amounts of DCA packages. Since a variety of DCA package chemistries were tested and each showed the effect of lowering the measured ASTM D381 solvent-washed gum content test result, this is likely to be a general phenomenon not limited by either gasoline composition or specific DCA composition.
