Abstract

The present invention relates to a new technique for medium voltage (MV) solid insulated switchgear. This eliminates use of 3P switch. The proposed invention uses a moveable vacuum circuit breaker (VCB) cluster connection with fixed contact to achieve isolated clear distance. VCB cluster can be moved in horizontal and/or vertical direction. Solid insulation material on the contact arm and fixed contact bushing ensure insulation of complete surface after engagement of VCB cluster.

NEW SOLUTION FOR MEDIUM VOLTAGE SOLID INSULATED SWITCHGEAR

BACKGROUND

The present invention relates generally to switchgear and more particularly to a technique for medium voltage (MV) solid insulated switchgear.

It is a common trend to use Solid insulated switchgears (SIS) as they are compact, have no effect of environment (since they do not use sulfur hexafluoride (SF6)), and do not need maintenance.

In general, mainstream SIS is equipped with a three position (3P) switch and a fixed circuit breaker. The 3P switch, breaker and all live conductors are covered by epoxy or other insulating materials. Isolation between three position switches is filled by air.

A conventional technique uses 3P switch with vacuum circuit breaker (VCB) for SIS solution. However, in case 3P load switch uses vacuum, it increases cost of configuration and in case isolation is insulated by air, the isolation is not truly SIS. Further, operation of 3P switch needs special mechanism.

There is a need for a new technique for solid insulated switchgears that simplifies the operation of these circuit breakers.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

Figure 1 depicts a schematic of operation of switchgear provided by the current invention. Figure 2 depicts external view of the isolation clearance between main contacts and ground contacts.

Figure 3 depicts internal view of disconnect and connect positions.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

The switchgear according to proposed invention avoids use of a 3P switch. It uses a moveable VCB cluster connection with fixed contacts to achieve isolated clear distance.

Moveable VCB achieves isolation between main circuit and load. There are fixed contacts
