Abstract

A method and system for displaying advertisements based on images uploaded by a user is disclosed.  The method and system analyzes an image uploaded by the user and displays advertisements to the user based on the analysis.

Description

Disclosed is a method and system for displaying advertisements based on images uploaded by a user.  When the user uploads an image, the method and system analyzes the uploaded image to search for advertisements similar to the uploaded image.  Here, the advertisements may be selected based on similarity with one or more of, but not limited to, a location, a product, and a restaurant shown in the uploaded image.  The advertisements are then compared with the image uploaded by the user to determine the extent of similarity of each advertisement with the image.  In a scenario, the determination is performed using existing technologies.  Thereafter, the advertisements having higher extent of similarity with the image are displayed to the user.

The method and system also retrieves important information from the one or more images.  For instance, the user may upload an image that shows a bag of a certain company.  The system then analyzes this image to determine the brand or company of the bag and render corresponding advertisements to the user.

In a scenario, a model is used to categorize the images uploaded by the user based on one or more characteristics such as, but not limited to, product name, brand, type of service, and availability information as identified by a codebook.  These characteristics are identified from the images uploaded by the user.  Initially, the model applies feature detec...
