Method and System for Utilizing Augmented Reality and Graphical Visualization Techniques for Managing Physical Configuration

Disclosed is a method and system for configuring, verifying and maintaining entities in a location such as a warehouse, a factory, a plant or a building. The method and system includes providing a two-dimensional (2D) or three-dimensional (3D) visualization of the configuration information, hereafter referred to as warehouse hierarchies. The method and system utilizes augmented reality along with the 2D or 3D visualization.

An exemplary architecture of the system is illustrated in Fig. 1.

As illustrated, the system utilizes 3D building models for creating 2D or 3D visualization of the warehouse objects.

The system may utilize an information editor and different hardware wrappers for rendering the 2D or 3D visualization in different tools as illustrated in Fig. 2.

In addition, the system may utilize different validation rules for generating different recommendations as illustrated in Fig. 3.

In accordance with the method and system, a configuration of one or more entities in a location is created. The one or more entities may be physical entities of the location

such as storage boxes in a warehouse. The configuration may be created by a user by utilizing the visualization illustrated in Fig. 4.

The user may specify characteristics regarding the location and provide additional information about the one or more entities and the location . For example, the user may specify if a warehouse is refrigerated or if a storage box is refrigerated . Such additional information may be displayed in the visualization.

In an embodiment, any additional information regarding the one or more entities may be added in the 2D or 3D visualization by dragging and dropping the additional information. The additional information about the one or more entities or the location may be entered using one or more of, but not limited to, a mobile computing device, a smartphone and a handheld device with a built-in camera along with a Global Positioning System (GPS) locator.
