Method and System for Enabling a Driver to Request for Driver Specific Speed Limit

Disclosed is a method and system is disclosed for enabling a driver to request for driver specific speed limit from one or more controlling authorities based on one or more environmental attributes. The one or more environmental attributes may include, but are not limited to, road conditions, historical driving record, vehicle status, driver status and other parameters. The other parameters may include reporting an emergency by the driver. The method and system includes collecting in-vehicle data and driver desired course and submitting to appropriate jurisdiction for jurisdictional authentication for customized driving speed limit.

In one implementation, initially, a driver is registered with one or more controlling authorities. The one or more controlling authorities may be governmental regulating bodies such as a Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) that define speed limits and traffic rules for each jurisdiction along a desired course. The registration of the driver includes registering a vehicle driven by the driver. During registration, the DMV may inspect past record of the driver and inspect the vehicle to examine operating condition of the vehicle. The method and system may automatically obtain information regarding the driver and the vehicle for the DMV. The information regarding the driver may include one or more of, but not limited to, driving record, driver education and certifications. Similarly, the information regarding the vehicle may include one or more of, make of the vehicle, condition of the vehicle and approvals obtained by the vehicle.

In operation, the driver may plot a desired course and an arrival time on a Global Positioning System (GPS) system of the vehicle. The GPS system predicts a required speed at which the vehicle should be driven to arrive at the destination at the desired arrival time. The required speed may vary on different section of roads along the desired course. For example, a speed...
