Abstract

A method and system is disclosed for providing authentication means in a mobile device based on a change in magnetic field. The method and system enables a user to rotate a wheel that includes multiple magnets installed on the mobile device to lock or unlock the mobile device. The rotation of the wheel changes electromagnetic signal level to provide varied authentication level to lock or unlock the mobile device.

Disclosed is a method and system for providing authentication means in a mobile device based on a change in magnetic field. The method and system enables a user to rotate a wheel that includes multiple magnets installed on the mobile device to lock or unlock the mobile device. The rotation of the wheel changes electromagnetic signal level to provide varied authentication level to lock or unlock the mobile device.

In accordance with the method and system, a fixed magnet and a wheel that includes multiple magnets installed on a mobile device of a user as illustrated in the Figure.

The multiple magnets attached to the wheel have different dimensions and different strengths. The user may rotate the wheel in different positions. Once the user rotates the wheel, the multiple magnets also rotate to change relative position of the multiple magnets against the fixed magnet. The relative position of each magnet of the multiple magnets against the fixed magnet provides a different electromagnetic signal level for each relative position. The user may set an authentication level for each electromagnetic signal level. For example, if an electromagnetic signal level is 1, then only a screen of the mobile device is unlocked.
