A system is herein disclosed that enables the automatic setting of a car radio's preset

stations to map to a user's favorite genres as contained in a portable audio device. This is valuable to a user who wants to listen to a varied selection of music on the radio that also maps to individual likes and interests. The disclosed system allows the user to listen to local broadcasting, and takes the guesswork out of finding local stations that play the desired type of music when the user is not familiar with the frequencies.

In one or more embodiments of the presentation invention, the system performs a search on the car's radio using the genre section of a radio application that lists genres in a user's library by scanning the radio stations and performing music analysis for each section for a potential song, including the broadcast information. The system maps the genres to the call letters or signal that the radio stations broadcast. If the system identifies a match, then it automatically sets a preset to the station, and continues for n+1 entries for the genres contained in the user's mobile device. This sets all the presets to the genres to which the user commonly listens.

Existing systems can be used as enabling art for identifying genre instead of song and increase the perceived "intelligence" of the system.
