Abstract
Suggested are a method and a system which utilize a fuzzy target or meeting point, where the accuracy of the meeting point increases as the participants approach. The system exploits mobile technologies to boost "smarter cities".

Problem


To organize a meeting, usually a meeting point is defined, e.g., a physical location. Participants approach this defined meeting point using different "channels" (e.g. public transportation, own cars, pedestrian path) and different routes at different times.

That defined meeting point may change because of - unavailable agreed upon intended meeting point

- earlier participant is at better position as rest of team

- majority of participants already met

- meeting point hidden by local conditions (e.g., crowds of moving people at an Xmas bazar)

- short-notice change of meeting point due to actual conditions

Hence changing the defined meeting point results in not meeting in time or even loss of participants . A state-of-the-art meeting organization leads generally into the following drawbacks - inflexible and static meeting planning

- communication overhead for late arrivals or no shows

- short notice changes might not reach all participants timely , e.g. when telephone line busy

- failure of successful meeting when conditions change (e.g., original physical location not available )

Suggested are a method and a system which utilize a fuzzy target or meeting point, where the accuracy of the meeting point increases as the participants approach.

The system exploits mobile technologies to boost "smarter cities": - Organize a meeting using personal mobile devices

- Meeting invitation includes a first meeting point information (e.g., physical location, location of dedicated mobile device). - Personal mobile device navigates to first meeting point

- First arrival (at or in best position to first meeting point) posts "I am here", which defines the "Leader", all others become "Followers", where first arrival defines the next more accurate meeting point - Navigation of the followers is modified to navigate to "leader" position ("Leader" role can switch)

Solution Advantages


The solution provides among other features the following advantages: - fuzzily defined meeting point

* no precise location knowledge needed from invitees, esp. if meeting location changes on short notice

* change of meeting location immediately communicated to all invitees

- Situation-adapted chair role: dynamic chair role among participants as situation requires . "chair token" (chair considered participant) - meeting invitation information adapts as gathering process develops

* ad-hoc re-rooming if planned room is unavailable

* easy relocation of meeting point

- always all participants are informed about meeting point changes

- relocation works simultaneously with all participants , also if telephone channels are not available at the same time
